Busy, busy, busy!

It is so surprising. I still get a few readers every day, although it has been many months since I wrote anything new on this blog.

Yes, I blame work for this. We are understaffed for the moment and the most busy period of the year is looming on the horizon. Last week I was 4 days out of 5 abroad (Geneva and London, as those who follow my Facebook will know) and the remaining days were filled with meetings, assisting colleagues and dining with clients. It felt as if I hardly got any proper work done.

But before the really busy time will be upon us, I will take some time off, starting next week on Wednesday afternoon.

Then I will pick up Zai, my lovely Thai girlfriend and her sweet darling daughter Korya at the airport in Brussels. I already booked a mid-week stay at Centerparcs and Disneyland Paris. We will have three weeks of fun. I will cook some Belgian food for them and I will be treated with delicious Thai cuisine made by Zai.

Zai and Korya

Zai and Korya

So this weekend I gave the house a good cleaning, prepared Korya’s room, put the car through the car-wash and even found time to cook me a real autumnal lunch (grilled beetroot, parsnip, turnip, carrot and fennel), a recipe originally invented by Jamie Oliver.

Now I count the hours till my darling will be in my arms.

Good times ahead!

The last weekend before I leave on vacation. That means lots of chores and things to do:

  • Getting a haircut (so I somewhat resemble my passport photo again),
  • Doing some clean-up in the house,
  • Packing my bags (don’t forget to put in the chocolates and presents)
  • Loading my e-reader with some more books (it is a looooong flight to Thailand)
  • Print-out the boarding passes (if already available on the airline‘s website) and hotel reservations
  • Charging my stock of rechargeable batteries (for the camera, the GPS, the headphones)
  • Charging and updating the tablet computer
  • Activate my ATM cards for South East Asia
  • Stocking up on cat food so Hobbes will have nothing wanting during my absence
  • Applying for a e-visa to Cambodia so we can go and visit Angkor Wat
  • Thousand other things I cannot remember now, but which will wake me up in the middle of the night

Thursday morning will see me boarding the flight to Thailand. A few days in Bangkok to acclimatize and loose my Western attitudes and then on Monday I will take the bus to Bang Saen to meet my loved ones. The first few days we will spend some time with my darling’s parents and her brother, visiting some nearby sights, then we will go to Ko Si Chang for some nice and quiet island time!

Back Home

I have returned home after a short vacation in Thailand.

10 days, it is not enough really, but still it did me loads of good. Spending some time with my loved one recharged my batteries.

A few days in Bangkok and then I took the night train to Khon Kaen and a taxi to Maha Sarakham where I met up with Zai.

Zai, my loved one, in her government uniform

She received her “Master of Education Research” diploma from the hands of the Royal Princess Siridhorn. A big honour indeed!

After all this protocol, we still had a few days left to spend time together and travel around with her daughter Korya. More pictures of this all can be found on my photo website.

I am really blessed to have met Zai. She is so sweet and kind and always full of good ideas!
